Days of Type
I realized there wasn’t going to be an official Days of Type event this year, but I drew some cool letters anyway. Created on my 11-in IPad Pro with Procreate and my Apple Pencil. Here are all of my letters showcased together. Days of Type is always exciting to join by posting the newest letter or number one day at a time and see what ideas other artists come up with.
Days of Type is a global creative challenge that celebrates typography and design by inviting artists, designers, and typographers from around the world to reinterpret letters and numbers in imaginative ways. Originating as a social media-driven event, it encourages participants to post their daily typographic creations—based on a letter or numeral prompt—while connecting with a broader design community. This worldwide event has grown into a vibrant showcase of diverse styles, techniques, and cultural influences, highlighting the power of type as both an art form and a universal language.
I’ve participated in the Days of Type event for three years now, and each round has offered a new creative challenge. In 2024, my focus was on designing a simple, fun, and cohesive alphabet—while making sure I saw the project through to the end!
Below is my collection from 2022, where I explored line drawings inspired by the ABCs of scientific names for U.S. native plants. Each letter took much longer than I anticipated, but the process was incredibly rewarding and the final set was a joy to create.
A is for Asclepias syriaca… a US native plant also known as common milkweed.
If you aren’t too squeamish, you can check out my reel of Illuminated Insects from 2023. ;)
Thanks for looking,
